Engineered Overdrive Stability and Clutch Apply Consistency
This SunCoast Performance Loaded 68RFE Overdrive Drum Assembly is a fully assembled, drop-in solution designed to improve clutch apply consistency, structural integrity, and long-term durability within the overdrive circuit.
This is the same overdrive drum assembly utilized in SunCoast Category 4 high-performance 68RFE transmissions, validated in high torque, high load, and elevated temperature operating environments.
Each unit is assembled in-house at our Fort Walton Beach, Florida facility and inspected to ensure proper tolerances, clutch clearances, and hydraulic functionality. Installation requires no machining or modification.
SunCoast V2 Billet Overdrive Drum
The assembly is built around the SunCoast V2 Billet Overdrive Drum, developed to address structural and hydraulic limitations within the overdrive system.

Functional Outcomes
Engineering Significance
The SunCoast V2 billet drum design improves hydraulic efficiency, sealing stability, and structural rigidity within the overdrive circuit. Increased clamping force and friction capacity allow the clutch pack to hold torque with reduced slip, minimizing heat generation and wear.
Enhanced sealing maintains consistent hydraulic pressure at elevated RPM, while increased rigidity and reduced apply plate movement support uniform clutch loading. The removal of centrifugal apply springs further stabilizes apply behavior across the operating range.
When combined with the Alto G3 friction system and SunCoast SRRS, these features operate as a synergistic system—where hydraulic control, friction performance, and mechanical retention reinforce one another.
The result is consistent clutch apply and release, improved torque transfer, reduced thermal loading, and increased durability under sustained load.
Alto High Performance G3 Clutches
This assembly is equipped with Alto High Performance G3 clutches, increasing clutch capacity to 16 total friction surfaces while significantly advancing friction material performance.
The G3 compound is engineered for high-energy applications where both thermal stability and friction consistency are critical to clutch performance.
Material Characteristics
Performance Effects
By maintaining a more consistent friction coefficient under load, the G3 material allows for cleaner, more controlled clutch apply with less energy lost to heat. This improves torque transfer efficiency while reducing thermal stress on the clutch pack.
Under sustained load and repeated duty cycles, this stability helps prevent performance fade and maintains predictable clutch behavior over time.
SunCoast SRRS — Snap Ring Retention System
The SunCoast Snap Ring Retention System (SRRS) is designed to eliminate snap ring displacement and retention loss—one of the most common mechanical failure points within the 68RFE.
All components are machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum and engineered to reinforce critical retention points while maintaining clutch pack stability under load.
Included Components
Billet 68RFE Snap Ring Retainer — Load Control & Retention Stability
The SunCoast Billet 68RFE Snap Ring Retainer is a key structural upgrade within the SRRS system.
Machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum, this component is designed with increased height to apply additional spring load tension, helping prevent snap ring expansion and loss of retention under high torque conditions.
Engineering Benefits
This component plays a critical role in maintaining clutch pack integrity by ensuring the snap ring remains fully seated and stable during operation.

System Integration
This assembly is engineered as a unified system where hydraulic control, structural rigidity, and friction performance are balanced.
Combined System Behavior
By combining increased hydraulic clamping force, advanced friction material, and reinforced mechanical retention, the system minimizes variables that typically lead to clutch instability and wear.
Structural components—such as the billet snap ring retention system—maintain clutch pack integrity under load, ensuring that applied force is consistently transferred through the friction elements rather than lost through component movement or deformation.
The result is a system that operates predictably under load, maintains performance over time, and reduces the likelihood of failure associated with heat, deflection, and retention loss.
Built by SunCoast Performance
Each assembly is built and inspected by SunCoast Performance technicians specializing in high-performance diesel transmissions.
This unit is intended for applications requiring repeatable performance, controlled clutch apply, and durability under elevated load conditions.
Consistent Apply. Controlled Operation. Validated Performance.

Im a Diyer. I broke my OEM drum while car-hauling with my ram 3500. Damaged spring, piston retainer snap ring, and thrust washer and piston retainer and burnt UD and OD clutches. I rebuild the OEM unit but didn’t reinstall. I waited until I had funds to buy this unit. I chose over Revmax 550. I transferred my input shafts and intermediate shafts and completed installed. I love my truck more now and it shift smooth like butter. Thanks Suncoast I love your stuff just wish I had more money lol to get more things! Super high quality and way better than the flimsy stock stuff I was hauling with
