This is the same overdrive drum assembly used in the SunCoast Performance Guardian line of 68RFE transmissions. Each unit begins with a factory 68RFE overdrive drum that is professionally assembled and upgraded by the transmission specialists at SunCoast Performance in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

The drum arrives as a fully loaded assembly ready to drop directly into your transmission during a rebuild. No machining or modifications are required for installation.

Each assembly is built in-house by experienced SunCoast technicians and inspected to ensure proper tolerances, clutch setup, and reliability. This drum also includes the SunCoast SRRS (Snap Ring Retention Solution), designed to correct several common 68RFE failure points.

SunCoast SRRS – Snap Ring Retention Solution

A common 68RFE failure occurs when the underdrive balance piston snap ring blows off, which can cause severe damage to the overdrive drum and clutch hub assembly. SunCoast developed the SRRS system to prevent these failures and improve durability inside the transmission.

Input Clutch Hub Snap Ring Retainer

Machined from 6061 aluminum, this patented SunCoast design encapsulates the snap ring inside a recessed pocket, preventing it from leaving the groove under load. The retainer is secured with three Torx fasteners positioned in counter-drilled pockets and installs without additional machining.

Billet 68RFE Snap Ring Retainer

Manufactured from 6061-T6 billet aluminum, this retainer is .040 inch taller than the factory component to increase spring load tension. The added tension helps prevent snap ring expansion and blow-off under high torque loads. Anti-rotational tabs ensure the retainer remains securely positioned during operation.

M3GA 4C Snap Ring Retainer

The 4C snap ring is another common failure point in the 68RFE. SunCoast’s billet retainer encapsulates the snap ring and prevents it from dislodging from the center support.

Billet 4C Reaction Ring Gear Thrust Washer

The factory thrust washer is made from plastic and can fatigue or break under load. SunCoast redesigned this component from solid 6061-T6 billet aluminum to provide greater durability and improved lubrication to the 4C clutch pack through redesigned oil slots.
